Make and model of computer: HP G72-B15SA

How the computer is connected: wireless

Make and model of Router: Belkin F6D4630uk4A

Hi,

I have Used this forum twice before and proved to be very successful in getting help. So I am back with a new problem and a new account (forget old details).

I have an old router lying around that was made redundant when we got our new router not so long ago. So I thought what could I do to utilize this old router. After Googling what to do with an old router I came across wireless bridging. I have a desktop computer in my bedroom and wanted to be able to connect it to the internet but the main router is downstairs in the kitchen ( not the best place for it.) so I thought a wireless bridge would be helpful to get it connected to the internet.

So what do I need to do to get my main router the Belkin F6D4630uk4A to connect to my old router Belkin F5D7632-4 via wireless. On the old router settings I can set up wireless bridge via one of the options but the new router does not have this option available. I understand that flashing the router with DD-WRT will give me greater control over the router but I am not hugely keen on flashing the new router, but I will happily do so if needed. So in conclusion I want to connect the two routers together via WiFi to allow me to connect the desktop to the old router upstairs in my room. I am an amateur at this but I usually learn quite quickly. Answers would be grateful in laymen terms.

Thanks, all help appreciated.

Did you checked if your newer Belkin router is supported? http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices
It seems wiring both routers and using the extension as a wireless access point is your only choice. If the desktop is running on PCI or USB wireless, can't it reach the main router's signal from upstairs?
