Every time I do a Microsoft Security Update there is always one that won't install:

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2656353)

Everything else updates just fine. Should I just forget about it? I have XP Professional on a custom desktop. Any suggestions?

Maybe it is because newer ones are already on there so I don't need this.

Is NET Framework 1.1 installed on your system?

I believe that the only systems that now have such...are MCE systems because that version came preinstalled on those systems.

If 1.1 is installed, it's possible that it may be damaged and (thus) preventing the update.

Is that the only known problem that you currently experience?

No other issues. How can I check if it is installed? These are the last 10 items: the 1.1 is the only one that won't install - all the rest did install.

Add/Remove Programs...will reflect all versions of Microsoft NET Framework which are installed...as individual programs.

System manufacturer and model?

Windows XP Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2656353) Friday, March 23, 2012 Microsoft Update
- - - :spacer: Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2656353)

You seem to have this update alreadt installed - Please check that the Top listed update is not listed in RED -
If it is listed in RED , that means it failed to install at the last update. If not then it is installed, and ignore future updates with this KB number

It was made for me so all the parts were bought individually. It shows 2 - one shows no size and the other one show a size of 9.81MB (Rarely used).

Then I have:

2.0 Service Pack 2
3.0 Service Pack 2
3.5 SP1
4 Client Profile
4 Extended
Compression Client Pack 1.0 for Windows XP

Do you mean on the Microsoft Update page or the Add & Remove page?? I don't see colors on the add and remove. Everything has a green check mark except the 1.1 on the Microsoft Update page

There will be no color in Add / Remove, only in M/soft updates -

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 (64-bit), Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008
Download: Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
Please visit this page and confirm it is the missing update that you want - I think I have matched this as KB2656353 -

Download it first to desktop (if you can) and then install it later

Regards

I ran it but I don't think anything happened. I did another update and it still shows that it did not install.

OK -
Click Start > Right click My Computer > Properties > Read the Version of Windows that is installed -
See post #2 above from hamluis - Do you have Media Edition installed ??

Other wise you seem to have a version of this KB item already installed (see your quote above) -
Do not concern yourself any more about this issue, as by carefully reading your post, there is no actual problem :)

If offered this KB item again, click install and do not worry if it will not install :thumbup2:

Hi -
As per my last post, You are showing that it is already installed from a previous update -

If offered this again, do the usual thing that you do with installing updates, and if the KB is in the update do not worry.
You posted at #6 that you already have this (twice), so it is just part of M/soft update circle, and ignore the result -

Regards -
