Hiya peoples ... I got the W32.Sinnaka.A@mm worm and have been going crazy trying to kill it. I ran a bunch of online virus scans and it looks like it may have gone away (because my computer no longer flashes a virus alert) but I don't want to take any chances. I ran a HijackThis log that I will post below. I've printed out corrective responses from others with the W32.Sinnaka.A@mm worm, but I'm wondering if each computer needs to corrected in a different manner. Thank in advance for your assistance.

Hello and welcome to the site..

Let's get started. This will take definately more than one step to get your PC cleaned up - please track this Topic and reply in timely manners.

We'll start with removal of SpyFalcon...

Please print these instructions out, or write them down, as you can't read them during the fix.

Please download smitRem.exe© by Noahdfear, and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Next, please download FixSF.reg to your desktop by right clicking on the following link and then selecting Save Link As or Save File as, depending on your browser.

Please download the latest version of Ad-Aware SE Personal from HERE (if you already have Ad-Aware installed, make sure that it is the latest version 1.0.6.)

If it's NOT the version 1.0.6, can you then uninstall your current version/delete folder: C:\Program Files\Lavasoft & empty recycle bin. Finally install the latest version.

1) Launch Ad-Aware SE and run the WebUpdate feature. (Click on the Globe icon, Click "connect", Click "OK", Click "Finish".)

IF you are having problems with the updating, get the manual updates here

Next, please download the trial version of Ewido Anti-malware here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, please go to Add/remove programs in your Control Panel and uninstall the following entry (if present):

SpyFalcon

***if the computer asks for you to let it reboot DO NOT allow it.

Go to your desktop and double click on the FixSF.reg file that you downloaded earlier. When it asks if you would like to merge the information, press the Yes button and then the OK button.

Navigate to the following files/folders and delete these (if present):

C:\Windows\System32\dxmpp.dll
C:\Program Files\SpyFalcon

Open the SmitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named Smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Launch Ad-Aware SE Personal:

2) Set up the Configurations as follows:
  • Click the Gear wheel at the top of the Ad-Aware window
  • Click General > Safety & Settings: Check (Green) all three.
  • Click Tweak > Cleaning Engine > UNcheck "Always try to unload modules before deletion".
3) Click on "Proceed"
4) Click on "Scan Now"
5) Deselect "Search for negligible risk entries" as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
6) Select "Search for low-risk threats"
7) Run the scanner using the Full Scan (Perform full system scan) mode.
8) When the scan has completed, select Next.
9) In the Scanning Results window, select the "Scan Summary" tab.
10) Check the box next to every "target family" for removal.
11) Click "Next", Click "OK".
12) Close Ad-Aware.

Next, please run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
  • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Close Ewido Anti-malware.

Finally, go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Normal Windows.

Post a fresh HijackThis Log, the contents of smitfiles.txt and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.

I have my logs posted here. My homepage is unhijacked and I believe the 'puters back to good. Many thanx my friend(s). One last question ... is it safe to delete some of the virus scans as well as their respective quarantines???

You still have some crap on the machine.. Let's clean it out. And yes, you can remove Ewido aswell as SmitRem - Ad-Aware is 100% recommended though.

==

Please print these instructions out, or write them down, for easier reference during the fix.

Go to -> Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs and uninstall the following entries if present:

TBONBin <= Might be named TBON
RXToolBar <= Or Semantic Insight

===

Run a scan with HijackThis and check the following objects for removal:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{00D6A7E7-4A97-456f-848A-3B75BF7554D7} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - SOFTWARE - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [bfxwypdszooks] C:\WINDOWS\System32\hueeqq.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [redirect] C:\windows\redirect8.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mcun] C:\WINDOWS\Registration\mcun.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SemanticInsight] C:\Program Files\RXToolBar\Semantic Insight\SemanticInsight.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [tbon] C:\Program Files\TBONBin\tbon.exe /r

Close ALL other open windows except for HijackThis and hit FIX CHECKED.

  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
  • Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
  • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\hueeqq.exe
    C:\windows\redirect8.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\Registration\mcun.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\Config\iiskb.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\Driver Cache\urlip.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\Registration\basun.exe
    C:\Program Files\TBONBin\tbon.exe
    C:\Program Files\RXToolBar\Semantic Insight\SemanticInsight.exe

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
  • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).
If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

==

After reboot..

Navigate to, and delete the following two folders if present:

C:\Program Files\TBONBin
C:\Program Files\RXToolBar

Empty recycle bin.

Ok, I seem to have a spyware problem that just won't go away. I ran Panda and it listed one virus, 32 spyware and 7 "hacking tools and potentially unwanted tools." The ActiveScan and fresh HijackThis report are below. Thanks.

Ok, firstly, I really need you to install an Anti-virus application.

Get the free version of AVG here:

http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

Download it, install it, configure it how you like. Update it. Don't do anything else with it yet.

==

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

==

Once in Safe Mode, launch AVG v. 7, run a FULL scan with it (scan anything it can) removing/quarantining EVERYTHING it finds.

==

Reboot back into Normal Mode. Run a fresh scan with Panda aswell as a new HijackThis scan. Post back with both of the logs.

Hi again

Click Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs and uninstall the following entries if present:

ClearSearch
Lycos
MyWay
Need2Find

==

Next:
  • Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
  • Select:
    • Delete on Reboot
    • then Click on the All Files button.
  • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\bundles\WebRebates_Auto_InstallSilent.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\counter.inf
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\Download Plus.lnk
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\tvmknwrd.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\BUNDLES\32wu54rd.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\smdat32a.sys

Well, I ran all the advice you gave me and I've posted my logs below. I'm not sure if I can get the 'puter any cleaner than it already is, so I want to thank you all in advance for helping me get my system somewhat back to normal. Hey, it's lot better than it was before.

  • It will prompt you to update to the latest definitions, click Yes.
  • Once the definitions are installed, click Options on the left side.
  • Click the Sweep Options tab.
  • Under What to Sweep please put a check next to the following:
    • Sweep Memory

    • Sweep All User Accounts
    • Enable Direct Disk Sweeping
    • Sweep Contents of Compressed Files
    • Sweep for Rootkits

  • Click Sweep Now on the left side.
  • Click the Start button.
  • When it's done scanning, click the Next button.
  • Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button.
  • It will remove all of the items found.
  • Click Session Log in the upper right corner, copy everything in that window.
  • Click the Summary tab and click Finish.
