Hi there,

I've been directed over here by the malware board. My computer has a rootkit virus and it has been recommended to me that I reformat my hardrive. I am terrified of doing it wrong and would feel comfortable if one of your clever folk could help me through it.

I have windows 7 home premium on a sony viao with a 64bit operating system. I can't seem to find any recovery disks,on the system restore options its seems i can only restore it to an earlier point in time.

thanks to everyone so far who has aided me in my prediciment

From the web: How to Restore Sony Vaio to Factory Specifications | Tech Tips - Salon.com

Sony Vaio computer systems include a restoration utility for resetting the system back to its original factory specifications. This process is useful for cleaning out a cluttered PC, deleting sensitive information prior to a change of ownership or as a last resort when infected with a virus or other malicious program. This process will erase the contents of the installation drive, so create any necessary backups of personal information before performing the recovery. You must reinstall any programs you wish to use again after the recovery.

Click on link above to get the instructions for resetting.
