I've been helping out in the network section. But it's annoying that I don't know if a problem is solved already or not. I open a topic, I have to first read the comments before reading the actual problem. I don't want to spend time thinking of a solution while the solution has already been given.

My suggestion would be tags in the topic title:

OPEN: My problem title
SOLVED: My problem title

Maybe close the topic when it's solved? Many topics are open while they are solved.

Hey Vosko, Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

This is something that we are discussing and hope to have something in place in the future.

We appreciate your suggestion and it has been discussed. While the idea seems logical and would be a help to some the reality is that it would be a major additional workload on our current staff. Topic titles can only be edited by moderators and above.

Add to that we would need to have a method to report topics needing to be edited as resolved to the staff. Not all staff visit every single topic to check so we wouldn't always know. If this was to be a process we wouldn't want it to be done half way. Consistency is a hallmark of Bleeping Computer and this would mean going back and setting every resolved topic as resolved. The man hours required to do that is prohibitive.

Not all members come back and let us know a topic is resolved. Just because they don't come back in a week or longer doesn't mean they won't be back. So where do you draw the line to say it's resolved for a member, who hasn't come back when you think they should to say a topic is resolved?

So to cut to the chase on this explanation. We don't have the staff numbers to manage this extra workload and do it consistently for the entire Bleeping Computer website.

With that all said, we will at some point in the not too distant future need to upgrade the forum software. At that time we will review the new features in the new software and see if there is a feature that that may address this issue of resolved topics.
