Hello -
Security Update for Windows XP (KB2633171) is listed when I search for this KB -
There are also quite a few people that mention this as a problem to install -
On your W/Update page, select your history of updates Now click on failed update (red mark) and see if there is an error code.
If there is an error code, write it down and post back, similar to 0x8007054F

Update for Windows 7 (KB2639308) Direct link to Download

To prevent this happening in the future I suggest you have your computer set to inform you, but not download or install any updates offered.
You then will be aware of what & when something is being downloaded - Would also recommend you do a few at a time rather than many at once.
Reminder....
Make sure you have a current System Restore Point created PRIOR to down loading any updates... just in case of problems.

Regards -

Can you check installed updates and or view update history in your control panel if both updates are present or installed successfully?
