My friend was over watching movies on my computer when he downloaded a codec c virus on my computer. I was angry and then told him to take it to a computer repair center, when he tried to fix it himself. I currently have McAfee, but he downloaded Malwarebytes and DeFogger and then Combofix. He says he took off DeFogger and Combofix but I have no idea what is going on. I ran reports on McAfee and nothing showed. I ran 5 full system scans on Malwarebytes and it registered some sort of Codec virus twice. Each time I tried to remove it, it stated it was successful and restarted my computer- but nothing was actually removed. The virus has changed my homepages, removed my main programs from the start menu and seems to slow my computer down overall. I also cannot start up in safe mode. Is there anything that can be done? Is it better to take my computer to a professional? I am not the most tech-savy user and I do not want to have my computer in a worse condition than it is now. I am studying abroad in Costa Rica right now so it is just extremely bad timing. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Create a DDS log and post it in the new topic explained in step 9 which is here Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs and not in this topic, thanks.
If GMER won't run skip it and move on.

Let me know if that went well.
