I have a laptop running vista 32bit, it had a minor bug and needed windows updates, after all was said and done everything booted up and "appeared" to be working fine. Then later it was discovered that "Local area network" was missing, no icon, no connection listing. Ok lets check the drivers. Humm missing also, almost as if there is no hardware? Ok check the bios, shows enabled? This connection was working just before the cleaning and upgrade? Anyone have any suggestions short of a wipe and reload to fix this issue? Just a FYI, the wireless works fine?

Thanks.

Use driver max to get the driver you need.
http://www.innovative-sol.com/drivermax/

Please download FarbarServiceScanner and run it on the computer with the issue.
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/farbar/FSS.exe

Make sure the following options are checked:
Internet Services
Windows Firewall
System Restore
Security Center/Action Center
Windows Update

Press "Scan".
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Please download MINITOOLBOX and run it.
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/farbar/MiniToolBox.exe

Checkmark following boxes:

Report IE Proxy Settings
Report FF Proxy Settings
List content of Hosts
List IP configuration
List Winsock Entries
List last 10 Event Viewer log
List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Click Go and post the result.

There are no missing drivers? Its like the hardware was removed? But its a laptop and nothing changed except the update? I have seen this happen once before but ended up wiping the system. Figured I would ask here if someone had a clue what caused it. My guess is some damaged service or subs system.

Download Security Check by screen317 from here. http://screen317.spywareinfoforum.org/SecurityCheck.exe

Save it to your Desktop.
Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
