Recently, I was invaded by tons of malaware and spyware. Nonetheless, I downloaded Spybot Search and Destroy, Ewido Security Suite, Ewido Malaware, Ad-aware, CwShredder and HijackThis! I got rid of much of the problem, but now I have noticed that my computer has slowed down tremendously.

First, I continuously experience popups from ad.firstadsolution, they pop up 2-4 at a time, and happen approx. every five minutes.

Second of course, my computer has drastically slowed down. Certain programmes experience a freezing state, but eventually go back to being unfrozen.

Lastly, everytime my computer starts, C:\Program Files\Common opens and I have noticed that the programmes that once started up in my task bar in the corner, no longer start.

Here is a copy of my HijackThis! report.

Also, I would like to add that regarding the problem of the folder opening every startup, I have checked msconfig and followed the steps prescribed in a previous thread that was posted on here some time ago - and still, nothing.

Update: Now it seems as though I cannot run MSN Messenger. Whenever I try to sign in, I get a message that says:

Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.

Then I get three options, Debug (does nothing), Send Error Report (as useless as Microsoft Support) and Don't Send

The only way I can sign in, is if I use Windows Messenger (which as we know is old and very depressing to use).

I think my computer is falling apart!

Hello,

Looks like more malware got installed in a meanwhile... that's why I need a new hijackthislog.
I see you didn't extract hijackthis, so please use your winace to extract it properly, because for the moment you are still running it from its unextracted folder.

So extract Hijackthis, create a permanent folder, for example C:\Hijackthis and move hijackthis.exe in there.

Another important thing I noticed..
Any reason why your windows isn't up to date? You don't have even ServicePack1 installed!
Remember that your system is extremely vulnerable without the necessary security patches/updates, so malware can get installed automatically while surfing without any problems.
Please visit http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloa...p1/network.mspx and update to Service Pack 1. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
When your system is clean afterwards, then update to SP2, because updating to SP2 CAN cause problems as long as you are infected.

So update to SP1 first before posting a new hijackthislog in this thread.

Hello,

It's better to print out the next instructions or save it in notepad, because you also have to work in safe mode without networking support, so this page wouldn't be available then.
It is also important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!

Download Brute Force Uninstaller.
Unzip it to a folder of itís own (c:\BFU).
Read here how to unzip/extract properly:
http://metallica.geekstogo.com/xpcompressedexplanation.html
Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe

Next to the 'scriptfile to execute'-window you'll see a little icon as shown in next picture: Posted Image
When you click that icon, a little window will open that says: 'Please enter the full URL to the sript you want to execute'
In the field, copy and paste next URL:

http://downloads.subratam.org/BFUscripts/igetnetfreepod.BFU

Click Ok
Then click execute in Brute Force Uninstaller.

Wait for the complete script execution box to popup and press OK.
Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

Reboot

After reboot...

* Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

* Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.
Do not use it yet.

Please download Ewido anti-malware ; it is a free version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck..
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  • Launch ewido by double-clicking on the icon on your desktop.
  • The program will now open to the main screen.
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates
Don't run it yet.

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

Hello,

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} - http://software-dl.real.com/121c98fc94a7e3...ip/RdxIE601.cab

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Delete next files:

C:\mc-110-12-0000228.exe
C:\SS1001.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\WebP2PInstaller.dll
C:\WINDOWS\drsmartload2.dat
C:\WINDOWS\kl1.exe
C:\WINDOWS\smdat32m.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bk.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\exclean.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\P2P Networking v126.cpl
C:\WINDOWS\uniq

It's running much better now.

If the problems arise again, I will definitely re-post!

Thanks so much!

Glad I could help.

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

* Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.
* Don't click on links inside popups.
* Don't click on links in spam messages claiming to offer anti-spyware software; because most of these so called removers ARE spyware.
* Download free software only from sites you know and trust. Because a lot of free software can bundle other software, including spyware.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates, so visit asap: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to update to SP2!

If you are having XP SP2, read here how to configure Security Features for Internet Explorer:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...xp/iesecxp.mspx

Also visit this Free Online Scanner for PC Health and Safety and Microsoft Security At Home for tips to Protect your Pc, Protect yourself and Protect your Family.

More info on how to prevent malware you can also find here (By Tony Klein)
