I have a hp a735w pc that has recently developed a problem when shutting down. when i go to start, and click turn off computer, it takes anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes for the options screen (restart, shutdown, cancel) screen to come up. If I click shutdown or restart, it takes another 3 to 5 minutes for the computer to actually shutdown. Any ideas?

Make sure you are Spyware & Malware clean.
See if that will solve the problem.

See this article:

See this article:
The Parasite Fight

Have you tried a complete cleaning to see if that helps?
Running these programs in Safe Mode produce better results.
