Hello dg55117,

Welcome to BleepingComputer!

My name is Nick and I will be checking over your log.

Let's get started.

You will want to print or save these instructions.

Download smitRem.exe ©noahdfear, and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Download FixSF.reg to your desktop.

Download Killbox and save it to your desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop (in Internet Explorer, right click on Panda ActiveScan link select "Copy Shortcut" then right click on your desktop and select "Paste Shortcut" or in FireFox right-click the link and select "Save Link As" and save it to your desktop).

Please download the trial version of ewido anti-malware here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Double click on the FixSF.reg file to add it to the registry.
Answer yes to confirm the merge.

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.
  • Put a tick by Standard File Kill.
  • In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time:

    C :\Windows\System32\dxmpp.dll

    C:\Program Files\SpyFalcon
  • Click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file.
  • It will ask for confimation to delete the file.
  • Click Yes.
  • Continue with that procedure until you have pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.
  • Killbox may tell you that one or more files do not exist.
  • If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you don't miss any.
  • Exit the Killbox.
Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
  • When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut.
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button.
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button.
    • Enter your Country
    • Enter your State/Province
    • Enter your e-mail address and click send
    • Select either Home User or Company
    • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When the download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the Panda scan report, along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of smitfiles.txt and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
Let us know if any problems persist.

Thanks,
Nick :flowers:

I was about to boot in safe mode and proceed with your last suggestions but when my computer came on a black screen came up ( I never got to press F8) with the following: We apologize for the inconveience but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change may have caused this error...." It went on with a lot more but I couldn't copy it. It then seemed like it continued to boot but then a blue screen came up with the following message, "A problem has been detected and Windows has shut down to protect your computer. "Registery error" It went on with a lot more but again, I couldn't write fast enough-
Please help as now my computer is unusable-
OPPPS!!!
Thanks
Dave

Are you able to boot up at all?
Also, were you able to copy more of the message it gave you?

Hi,

Sorry for the delay,

I'm doing some research on your problem, and I'm just curious, did you try to use the Killbox yourself?

I'll look more into your problem, and I'll try to post something tommorow afternoon.

Thanks,
Nick

Hey Nick,
I was getting worried as I can't use it at all- OH well-thanks for the reply
I used the killbox as instructed in your earlier message along w/ smitrem etc. Using killbox I typed in these 2 files to kill-
C :\Windows\System32\dxmpp.dll

C:\Program Files\SpyFalcon

I never got to use it again because when I went to boot in safe mode to use Killbox per your last instructions I had the problem of the blue screen w/ the text message that I indicated-
Thanks
dave

Hi dg55117,

Is this the first time you restarted after you installed new hardware?
If so, remove the hardware and start your computer again.

Thanks,
Nick

I never installed any new hardware. I simply did the steps instructed by you and then the problem. I've called Microsoft and Dell and all my hardware checks out OK but I'm still unable to boot or reinstall the OS or Repair it any way possible. I assume some register or program is missing due to one of the spyware fixes. Can you help??
THis is getting ridiculous-
Thanks Nick.

Hi dg55117,

Follow the instuctions HERE to perform a Repair Install.

A Repair Install will replace the system files with the files on the XP CD used for the Repair Install. It will leave your applications and settings intact, but Windows updates will need to be reapplied.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,
Nick
