Hi all,

I notice a few folks have had issues with BSOD when resuming, but many of them had modified their systems in ways that don't apply to me before they started experiencing problems, so I think I'm having a different problem. I have an Acer Aspire One AO533 netbook running Windows 7 starter. All the hardware is what came with the computer, and the programs I use are the basic things running on everyone's computer (browser, word processor, Avast, bittorrent). Three times this weekend, the netbook has crashed when waking up from sleep. I followed the tutorial for using Event Viewer to find the error messages, but I don't know how to use the messages to tell me what needs fixing. Here are the error messages from around the time of the last crash, in the order they appear in the log:

7:02:08 pm: The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: cdrom

7:01:18 pm: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

7:01:34 pm: The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000d1 (0x00000034, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x866713d7). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 031912-22464-01.

7:01:31 pm: The previous system shutdown at 7:00:31 PM on ‎19/‎03/‎2012 was unexpected.

If anyone has an idea of what this means -- especially if, as it has sounded from other posts, all I need to do is find out which corrupted driver to reinstall -- I would very much appreciate your input.

thanks,

lj

Let's collect some more information: I'll have a look at it and help you try to resolve the problem.

:step1: Please follow the instructions: BSOD Posting Instructions: Windows 7 - Vista

(Note: When you run BSOD_Windows7_Vista_v2.64_jcgriff2_.exe, it will also run autoruns.exe ... and both need to be in the same location!)
... with one exception in the following line:
  • "4. Zip up the entire output folder + PERFMON and attach the zip file to your next post."
The BC forums will allow a total attachment size of only 512 kb (and what you need to attach will exceed this limit). Please upload the zip file to a file sharing website of your choice and and post a link to it in this thread so that we can access your uploaded zip file. I will have a look at the contained information and see if I can shed some light on your BSOD issue.

See the suggestions in the following links for recommendations on file sharing websites:
  • http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/15-great-free-online-file-sharing-alternatives/
  • http://www.smashingapps.com/2008/08/28/5-best-free-file-hosting-services-to-store-your-files.html

:step2: Please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy, and post a link to it in this thread.
  • It is a convenient and accurate way of providing us with details of your computer specifications.

:step3: Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.
  • Checkmark the following checkboxes:
    • List Installed Programs
  • Click Go.
When the scan is finished, a text file will open in a Notepad window.
  • Copy the entire contents of the Notepad window, and paste in your reply.
(Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.)

I know there is lots on these boards to help with and few people to do the helping, so I'm just bookmarking so I don't lose the thread. (I've stopped putting the computer to sleep for now, and can use it without getting more blue screens.)

Nothing happened with the driver verifier. I followed the instructions and my computer restarted, ran as normal. I'm not sure if that was the intended result or not.

Thank you for being patient.

Good to see that the system is running well when the sleep function is not used.

Re: "Nothing happened with the driver verifier."
Good: Thanks for letting me know.

:exclame: How long did you allow Driver Verifier to run?

In your first post, you wrote: "Three times this weekend, the netbook has crashed when waking up from sleep"
It seems perhaps that only one minidump was saved during this period, namely 031912-22464-01.dmp
  • The remaining 5 minidumps are spread over the previous 10 months.
My interpretation of the 6 available minidumps (and that fact that the system is crashing but not producing crash dumps) suggests that there may be a problem with the hard drive.
156GB Western Digital WDC WD1600BEVT
Please download and run the Western Digital diagnostic utility (that runs from within Windows) to test the hard drive.
Run the Short test and then the Extended test (see instructions on the WD website download page).

Please let us know the results.

I bought the computer refurbished last April, but was assured it was just fine and barely used... I wonder if that was a mistake. (But it was all I could afford and has seen a lot of use in the last year.) These are the first blue screen errors I've seen -- but I have a habit of leaving it on unattended overnight, etc., and if I find it off or restarted later, I just assume Windows has updated, so maybe I have been missing something for longer than I realized.

Driver Verifier ran from Tuesday night until this afternoon when I saw your post telling me to turn it off. I didn't know if I had to or even could turn it off, so I just set it per the instructions and left it. Will download and run the Data Lifeguard diagnostic in the morning.

Thank you!!
