Some weeks after uninstalling a couple of programs, I find some wording present about those uninstalled programs in the PATH variable. Were the changes/appendings placed into PATH tied to the Registry? Would trying to change (edit) the PATH through Propertie...Environment Variables of Windows be safe to do?

The programs that I uninstalled were just some zip tools that I was trying.

System: Windows XP, s.p. 3, laptop

You can edit the path variable as you describe.

Still being curious about PATH variable, I ask: should a program's uninstaller remove its string from the PATH variable or not?

If it's a well written uninstaller then yes, it should undo all changes made by the installer. Unfortunately that's not always the case. There is no harm in your removing the program's pointer from the path.
