Hello,

When you did the re-install it should have prompted you to enter a new user name and password. Did you receive this prompt? If not then you most likely didnt do the re-install right. What disc did you use to preform this reinstall? A manufacturers disc or a windows vista retail disc? Also please post your system specs. :)

no I was not prompted to do anything. I figured out how to bypass it and luckally all my old stuff was still there. I tried it again and I got the error code 0xc0000142. needless to say it still didn't work. I am trying to use the reinstall cd that dell sent with my computer. I did some looking around and I think my first problem is I do not know how to boot off of the cd, I've been booting and then after windows starts running the cd.

my computer is a dell studio 1537. it's got a intel core 2, 4gb of ram. 32 bit vista home premium.

Did your computer come with any other discs to use to reinstall drivers? If not do you have another computer that has access to the internet as well as a flash drive handy? :)
