Posted in malware logs forum but haven't received any help....

Picked up a trojan - a fake Microsoft program that started with a warning of "Delayed Write Failed" and starting a "scan" which I stopped. Was able to get here to obtain directions to remove. Could not start the process in safe mode - only got a black screen, all programs removed from start menu. (It has not hijacked my proxy so that's good, I guess. No emails have gone out.)

To repair, I ried to start with running msconfig and that also went to a black screen. So I chose the option of resetting the computer to Thursday. Lo and behold I get my desktop and programs back.

Ran malwarebytes which detected nothing (full scan). Can I continue like this - assuming the trojan was just to get me to buy their 'software' and not stealing my files, etc. This is just a home computer - XP OS, 7-year-old Gateway desktop, mostly used for email, writing projects, photos, Zune play lists and Facebook. The raciest site I visit is dlisted.com for stupid celebrity gossip so I have no idea where this came from.

Had been backing up with an external hard drive but it's been a couple months. Can I back up onto an online backup system now? Would the Trojan piggy-back on that? Any online backup programs to recommend?

All suggestions, info, assistance is greatly appreciated.

Since the above topic in MRL is currently being worked, this topic in AII is now closed to prevent confusion.
