autoconnecting to wirerless router

I have a Netgear N300 wireless router and a macbook pro laptop. My computer will not automatically connect to the router.

Do you have the ssid broadcast turned off in your router? If the computer doesn't see the network it doesn't know to connect to it. This is assuming you can connect the laptop manually.
