I'm new to the bluray player-HD-hdmi cable-local-network-streaming-ndla game..... :D

I bought a sony bluray player with wlan built in, I connected it the router, I can now stream netflix movies etc..
nice nice nice, but I want to stream a MKV video file from my PC to my Bluray player, I already set Windows Media Player.
to stream but on the TV I only see the pictures, I'm not sure if should be able to do this.

more details about this issue.

Windows 7 pro.
I got WMP to play MKV files after downloading a codec file,
the MKV file is on "other media" tab in WMP.

I want to know If I should be playing the MKV file on Windows in order to "stream" it to the blueray player?

Last question that should be the first, do sony bluray players read MKV files? either directly with a USB stick or through the windows media player??
