Powerbook g4, OS 10.5.8

Sometimes when I start up my comp the screen tweaks out and displays a bunch of squares (I have an image but I can't figure out how to upload it).

Other times it will start up normally but as soon as I hover over the dock the whole comp freezes. I can still move the cursor around but I can't affect anything.

Neither things happen when I boot in safe mode. I tried running a disk check but it found no problems. Any ideas?

I wasn't having the same problem, but read your solution. I tried the repair disk and it worked for the problem that I was having. Thank you so very much for helping.
