I have a Dell Latitude D610, XP Professional Service Pack 3, 1gb RAM. When updating I get a BSOD. See BSOD.txt below. The system seems to operate ok but very slowly. The BSOD appears when I shut down and the update begins. Please help.

Addendum: Now the computer will shutdown and restart but gets the BSOD while updates are being installed. Also I had to use a different computer to post this message because the XP system would not continue from logging in to forum on the Bleeping Computer website.

Have you run Dell Diagnostics on the system yet?

The errors you get are often hardware/driver problems.

Louis, Thanks for your prompt response. You certainly are an early riser. When do you sleep?

I ran the Dell diagnostics and they came out perfectly clean. I noticed that the earliest restore point was just about five minutes before the first crash. I tried a system restore but it would not complete so I started the system in safe mode, did the system restore and problem was gone. I would have liked to see more restore points on Windows XP similar to Windows 7 where you can select restore points from further back in the past. I guess I was lucky that the restore point I needed was there. Once again, thank you for responding so quickly.

Richard
