Hi, I hope I can get some help.
I've been handed doing some work on a ecommerce website webpage and have no html experience.

I'll try and describe what I have and what I'd like to end up with.

Right now I have a simple page that has a home button w/link on top.
underneath it one below the other I have other image buttons w/links.
This works, click on the button and go to the appropriate place, IE Home or whatever.

http://www.computerhope.com/ is an example of what I'd like to end up with.
In the center of the page are 5 images that highlight as you mouse over them.
They are Free Help, Tips, Dictionary, Contacts, and Drivers
They also shift as you make the page wider or narrower.

that applied to 9 images with links and a little space between them is all I need to do as I see it.

The page I started with also stays centered and leaves the stuff on the left side and the right side accessible. Mine replaces the whole page.

If you look at the center section of the webpages below what I'd like to do is overlay (Replace?) the center section where it says no image for the images with the new webpage until the home button is selected and then back to the main page.

http://flashecom.com/images/clients/tl3.jpg
or http://flashecom.com/images/clients/tl4.jpg

From what I can see the center section as exists now overlays a background when it loads. So I would want to overlay it with the new page when they select that page.
Leaving the right hand side and the left hand side and the top and bottom as they are.
I hope what I want to do isn't hard to do. So far I've managed to get everything else that the boss wants done, done.

I didn't post the website since I don't want to seem to be advertising it here.

Thanks for any help.
Roger

So wait, you do or don't want the main content centered? Do you want it full screen or like it is? Are you just saying you want to replace what is inside the "layout" so instead of images you can put whatever you want? I'm a little confused :-\
There's no place like 0.0.0.0, i'm tired of being at 127.0.0.1

Hi, Sorry for the confusion. Maybe this will clarify it. I haven't done any programming since the days when Windows 3.1 was out. And that was compiled Dbase programs and stuff using the basic compiler. Nothing higher so this frazzling my brain a little bit.

Looking at http://flashecom.com/images/clients/tl4.jpg

And then the edited version showing the area I want to use makes it clear hopefully.

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/204/sitesample.jpg/

I was hoping to replace only the center white space with different content depending on which of the buttons labeled "Some Menu" above are chosen. Idealy the top, Bottom and sides would be unchanged and remain clickable. Then I could get rid of the Home button as there is one in the Top section that would be accessible. I'd be happy being able to display 3 rows of 3 images which link to what the image shows. For example a Image of an Apple when clicked on would show a page of different types of Apple. Or a image of an orange would show different oranges.

Hopefully that wouldn't be hard to do. My current solution has the 9 images + a home button with text under each image. However they are all in a column one under the other. And they replace the whole page rather than overlaying the white area in the center.

For some reason I can not attach a image today (My preferred method) so I've used imageshack for now.

I hope I'm clear, I know I am to me but that doesn't count.

Thanks
Roger

This is a trimmed down version of what I came up with.

There are a ton of different ways to do this. Here is one example (that will not work in IE):
<html>
	<head>
		<title></title>

		<script type="text/javascript">
			function changeContent(url)
			{
				document.getElementById('target').data = url;
			}
		</script>

	</head>
	<body>

		<input type="button" onclick="changeContent('http://www.bleepingcomputer.com')" value="Google" />
			<br>
		<input type="button" onclick="changeContent('http://www.bing.com')" value="Bing" />
			<br>
		<div>
			<object data="" id="target" style="width:600px; height:400px;"></object>
		</div>

	</body>
</html>

Here is another way to do it using iframes, which will work in IE"
<html>
	<head>
		<title></title>

		<script type="text/javascript">
			function changeContent(url)
			{
				document.getElementById('target').src = url;
			}
		</script>

	</head>
	<body>

		<input type="button" onclick="changeContent('http://www.bleepingcomputer.com')" value="Google" />
			<br>
		<input type="button" onclick="changeContent('http://www.bing.com')" value="Bing" />
			<br>
		<div>
			<iframe src="" id="target" style="width:600px; height:400px;"></iframe>
		</div>

	</body>
</html>

Or any other number of ways including using ajax, pre-loading all of the content and only making it visible when needed, etc.

Thanks

I'll have to dig into your examples once I get through all the emails.

Best Regards

Do you want to use Javascript, jQuery, Ajax or just want to have a different webpage for each section?

All you would need to do is find the center content DIV and just remove it and replace the HTML with what you want.

Are you looking for a "template" approach? PHP approach?

What I got from your post is you just want to use the template and remove the center content to replace it with yours, right?

If you can give me a link to the site i can show you exactly what HTML code you need to edit.
