Is it possible with Win7 to change any picture (Jpeg, png, bmp etc) into an icon file to use for a folder image, and how please?
I just realised that its not an actual folder... its a shortcut which has a folder as an icon, Its actually a shortcut to a folder on another drive, but I'd still like to change it to an image I choose.

Hello, I believe this is what you want.

Don't know about Win7, but it may be similar to XP, or give you an idea in which direction to go.

Right click desktop icon.
Select Properties.
Select Shortcut tab.
At the bottom, click the Change Icon button.
Choose one of the available options, or click the Browse... button and navigate to the image you want to use.

You'll have to convert the image you want to use to a .ico file, to use it as an icon.
Irfanview can do that for you.
When changing an image into an icon, don't use one that has a lot of detail, as it will be lost when shrinking it to icon size.

If you use Windows 7, it is similar to WindowsXP. You can use 123IconHunter to extract icons hidden in EXE, DLL, OCX, ICO and other type files, and save them as icon files (*.ico), so you can change your folder icon into that icon. If you want to convert image to ico file, you can use MyImageResizer
