Hi. My computer was infected around Nov 2011 and came back from the repair in December. Everything in my hardrive seemed to be backed up properly. It was only recently I noticed that some of my jpeg images didn't have a preview and OI clicked on them and a "corrupt jpeg" message pops up. Are these images lost for good or is there any way to get them back?

File corruption is common.

The only tool which I know of that attempts to correct corrupted files...would be the chkdsk /r command. Have you run that on the partition/drive in question?

Hi Louis. Thanks for your reply.

I just finished the chkdsk /r command as you recommended. Unfortunately the images still don't open.

What is exact wording of error message...and are you sure that it applies to all images?

How many files are we talking about, please?

Are they in the same folder...as images which function properly?

I only got a pop up message when I tried opening them the first time, but after that no message appears.

If I click on the images now, the window just flashes quickly. And if I try opening them via other programs, like Windows picture/fax viewer, a "No Preview Available" message is displayed.

I'm not sure how many files in total, but at least 7 corrupt images scattered throughout 3 folders of which have other jpeg images which open perfectly.

Could any of the following have been the causes of the corruption?
-giving the images super long names
-running ccleaner numerous times
