Hi, a couple months ago while I was using Firefox my PC started to run into some problems. Whenever I would start Firefox it would take 1-3 minutes for it to come up and even then it would take forever to load websites after a good 10-15 minutes of waiting it would run okay but every time I closed it and started it the same process and I would most of the time get a notice from Norton anti virus of a performance alert stating that Firefox was using a lot of memory. So after scanning my PC a numerous of times and got no results I decided to switch browsers to Google Chrome and well in the beginning was fine but after a month or so using it I started having issues again. Now it Google will open fine but take a long time to load pages its kinda hit or miss sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't and i would have to wait a couple minutes for it to be okay and now I'm getting the same performance alert from Norton but of Google this time I again tried registry cleaning using CCleaner scanned using spy bot and Norton and still have the same issue. Please help me I about had it with this crap :(

I don't see anything malicious there.

Assuming your Norton Security Suite includes a firewall make sure Windows firewall is OFF. As of now it's on.

Does the slowness affect browsers only?

Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

=============================================================================

Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner

  • Disable your antivirus program
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use
  • Click Start
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Check Scan archives
  • Click Start
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, click on List of found threats
  • Click on Export to text file , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
NOTE. If Eset doesn't find any threats it'll NOT produce any log.

Also...

I again tried registry cleaning

Not a good idea.
Registry cleaners/optimizers are not recommended for several reasons:

  • Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable.

The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry.
  • Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "bad entry". One cleaner may find entries on your system that will not cause problems when removed, another may not find the same entries, and still another may want to remove entries required for a program to work.
  • Not all registry cleaners create a backup of the registry before making changes. If the changes prevent the system from booting up, then there is no backup available to restore it in order to regain functionality. A backup of the registry is essential BEFORE making any changes to the registry.
  • Improperly removing registry entries can hamper malware disinfection and make the removal process more difficult if your computer becomes infected. For example, removing malware related registry entries before the infection is properly identified can contribute to system instability and even make the malware undetectable to removal tools.
  • The usefulness of cleaning the registry is highly overrated and can be dangerous. In most cases, using a cleaner to remove obsolete, invalid, and erroneous entries does not affect system performance but it can result in "unpredictable results".
Unless you have a particular problem that requires a registry edit to correct it, I would suggest you leave the registry alone. Using registry cleaning tools unnecessarily or incorrectly could lead to disastrous effects on your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again. For routine use, the benefits to your computer are negligible while the potential risks are great.

As of now as far as I know it's only affecting browsers. But I did play a game (Skyrim) for the first time in a while and noticed the game was not running as smooth as it used to but I don't know if it's related.

Not too long after your post I tried running the temp file cleaner and my pc froze had to manually shut it . Rebooted it and tried again and got the same thing had to again manually shuy down. Now when I tried to boot it up it went directly to startup repair I left it fell asleep woke up couple hours later and it was still going so I manually shut it down and went to sleep probably not a good thing to Shut it off like that but I was mad, anyways just got home booted up the pc and as we speak its attempting to repair the disk stating that it might take over an hour so now I'm waiting...

Turn the computer off manually.
Wait 1 minute.
Try to start it again.
If normal mode doesn't work, try safe mode.

Update: Left PC on running startup repair overnight and woke up to a working computer! :woot: Im at work right now when I get off Ill try the ESET scanner and skit that TFC.

Question Broni, since you said you don't see any problems, could it be a hardware issue? see my firefox till has the same problem whenever I open firefox takes a while for it to come up and Chrome even tho its not the same way its showing signs just like firefox did so I'm kinda confused. When I get home I'm also going to look at some of those performance alerts and post what they said there were some when I ran firefox that would say something about UNS.exe file taking a lot of memory and sometimes firefox alert so Ill look and let you know.

Good news :)

Let's see what Eset will show.

Since the issue is affecting browsers only I doubt this is hardware related.
