Windows Media player constantly freezing

I thought I had either a virus or malware. Boopme was nice enough to rule those out. security forum thread I'm contemplating doing a clean install of windows 7. Does anyone have any ideas before I blow it up and reinstall?

Do you have yahoo messenger installed? This problem could be related to 3rd party software and yahoo has been mentioned...
