A technician advised me to run COMBOFIX. It seemed to finish all its tasks and then rebooted. But now it is in
what seems like a repetitive loop for several hours!
What I observe on the screen is a succession of windows the FIRST of which says C:\combofix and the SECOND Of which says pev.3XE
IS THIS NORMAL? Will the process come to a normal end of job? How will I know if it is necessary to kill tasks with the TASK MANAGER? Thanks!
I have two accounts on the computer. I am running COMBOFIX in a user account that does not have administrative privileges because it is
in that account that I experienced a strange bug with Firefox which Google claims was making excessive requests.
SHOULD I LET the loop run all night long?
Should I use task manager to kill the various COMBOFIX processes and then reboot as administrator?
Gringo was kind enough to advise me this far but I could use some advice if this is in an endless loop
I initially posted here with a HIJACKTHIS log hoping that someone would either give me a clean bill of health or else
tell me that I have a particular infection. Everything went along so smoothly and quickly until I ran this COMBOFIX.
Now, as I search in Google and read up I realize that COMBOFIX can possibly cause damage. The problems I was experiencing
were not so bad that I would be willing to take a great risk. I thought these programs were routine diagnostics.
I did not run COMBOFIX on my own but was instructed to do so by Gringo. So thanks for any tips, advice to
lessen my anxiety.
It occurred to me that perhaps when a problem gets assigned to one person then only that person will deal with it
when on-line, but perhaps people on line right now could advice me about this strange behavior of COMBOFIX. I do
not mind letting it run over night if it will do something constructive but if it is in some endless loop then
I would like to know what my other options are. THANKS!
