See if the disk you are using will boot on another system
In the beginning there was the command line.

This PC has been running all kinds of tests. I've tried some other CDs, and it won't accept them. So weird...maybe that's part of the problem....

I guess if it won't book from a CD, I am gonna have to try from the USB Stick...

I thought you had said the drive(s) worked in windows in the original post? If not then that is the problem.

Those computers will only boot from a CD in optical drive 0. Also, I don't remember seeing the option to boot from a USB drive on my parents' Dimension 4550, but I had the same problem. That computer also had two optical drives, and drive 0 was the top drive.

Thanks! I have been out of town for a few days. Will go back thru the posts and see what I can do/try.

I had the reinstallation disk in the Top drive, but it won't boot from it. The drive works if I click on My Computer, and open the disk that way but to BOOT from it is a no go.
