I have a Compaq CQ61-420US 15,6" notebook/laptop computer that I'd like to hook up to my Panasonic Viera XL Series TC-L26X1 26" 720P LCD HDTV so I can view photos, videos and hear my MP3 music on my TV from my computer. What sort of cables will do the job (for video and audio). I was checking out VGA cables at Amazon.com (USA) and am not sure just what I need so any advice you experts can give me will be much appreciated (and may help others who want to do something similar).

BTW: I have Cox Cable for both the laptop and TV.

Check to see if your TV has a VGA input - all you'd need is a VGA cable to go from the laptop to the computer, then tell it to share screens (it might auto detect come up anyway), letting it think that the TV is a projector. That's how I hook mine up when I opt to view things on the TV rather than the laptop screen. Also, with a long enough cable, you can sit on the couch/chair and operate the laptop.

You will need two cable if your laptop does not have an HDMI output. So first, if your laptop has an HDMI output, you will only need an HDMI cable for video and audio. if not..
You will need a VGA cable and a audio cable, 3.5mm to split audio, (red and white cable) which will go into the tv input.
