No operating system found after virus

Hi there people hope this is in the right section. I had a hdd failure malware/virus on my desktop and i tried to use sytem restore to get around it but on reboot it says No operating system found and my hard drive is not showing in the Bios!!! I am fearing the worst but if anyone can rescue me and has any ideas to try and save it it would be muchly appreaciated?
