My friend opened an email and we cannot do anything since then, on her laptop. She is running windows xp.We tried accessing the internet, running any files etc., and nothing. A program comes on from Internet Security, scans comp. and tells us to buy their program to get rid of virus. Whenever we try to access internet, or open a program, it says [windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item].Also, another little popup in bottom right corner says [File iexplore.exe. is infected by W32/Blaster worm. Please activate Internet Security to protect your computer], if for example we are trying to access IE.Same message appears about any exe. file we try to open on laptop.Only difference in message would be type of exe. we are attempting to open.I hope I gave enough info. for help.

What I ended up doing was read some more on the site, and I downloaded and used super anti-malware, and I ran it in safe mode.Found 6 trojans and I removed them. I downloaded avast for security, since she was using nothing at all, because her Norton's had expired. If there is anything better than avast for home security, that is free, please let me know.Everything seems to be ok now. I LOVE THIS SITE! Thanks for the reply!

Avast is good.

Lets see if your PC is clean now

Download

TDSSkiller

Launch it.Click on change parameters-Select TDLFS file system

Click on "Scan".Please post the LOG report(log file should be in your C drive)

Please download GMER from here(doesnot work on 64 bit OS)

http://www2.gmer.net/download.php

Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.

GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic Full Scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)

If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.

Download

aswMBR

Launch it, allow it to download latest Avast! virus definitions
Click the "Scan" button to start scan. After scan finishes, click on Save log

Post the log results here
