My wifes laptop got the windows xp 2012 security virus at the time there was no antivirus on the computer. Removed using malewarebytes. Installed Norton Antivirus, was able to connect to the internet wirelessly. Ran Norton got Tidserv Activity 2 virus. Found on here how to remove it. Downloaded 2 different programs it was removed. since then no wireless i have not walked my lazy ass upstairs to the router to try it directly connected. I have noticed when i look at what services are running some of them that i think should be running wont start and say they are marked for deletion. Also tried to remove the wireless network card and reinstall but same thing happned and i cant seem to modify the protcols or services which i find strange. I can get any info you need if you just let me know how to do it - thanks inadvance for any help.

From the command prompt type the following, pressing enter after each line :

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
netsh winsock reset

If you still have connection problems download this and transfer with a USB stick - winsockXP

Thank You

Please also post the FSS report if you can -

Also anytime i try ipconfig release - Windows Ip Config - No operation can be performed on local area connection while it has its media disconnected

The 4 directives I gave you will do 4 things all off line, not on line as ipconfig /release will sever your internet connection.

These are the "basic meanings" behind these commands - There is a bit more than this, but here are the basics -

1) ipconfig /flushdns will flush your configuration
2) ipconfig /release will disconnect you from your IP settings
3) ipconfig /renew will renew your IP settings
4) netsh winsock reset will stablise and reset your IP connections

Internet connection will be severed after the second command, then renewed after the third command.
These can also be done from the RUN box in XP, as I need to do it at times to reset my own connection at times -

Thank You -

EDIT - All 4 must be completed in sequence and fully finished -

You are missing a registry file, running commands will not work in your case

Thanks narenxp -
That was the basis of the blog I posted (netbt missing). I did not know how to write that script.

If bennorton can run that it may fix the missing registry item -

Regards -
