Hello, on XP professional system. Not sure what\how I did but I have inadvertently deleted the VOLUME control, and in Accessories -the games . I have tried the suggestions , and the solution appears to insert the XP disk, which has been lost. Is there any other way to retrieve these files. They are on my laptop. Don't miss the games but the volume control I do . tks

Looking at the attachment which shows the control panel (Start, The control panel)
See how the :Sounds and Audio devices" has been selected. Then Place "Volume Icon in the Taskbar" is selected.

It is also showing "Realtek AC97 Audio" in this case as that is the sound card in this computer. IS it showing a audio sound card?

Sometimes you may have to deselect and reselect to get it to appear. If that doesn't do it then we move to the next stage.

If you cant get it to work i would try and download the soundvol 32 here

http://www.4shared.com/file/39575054/e5c44d88/sndvol32.html?

It is a trusted site for me as i have downloaded this numerous times so it is clean. Once you download it go into your downloads and copy the file. Open My computer> Windows > System32 and paste to file into that folder. You can now make another copy on your desktop to access your Volume Controll.

To Rotor123 Thankyou.
I tried as you instructed. Message : Windows cannot display volume control on taskbar, because it is not been installed. To install go to add/remove programs. In there I am instructed to insert XP disc :( I don't have. So what's plan B.

Sorry the only link i had appears to be out of order. I will keep looking tho, there has to be something out there.

Another logical choice to try would be to copy the whole Accessories folder from another computer or computer account and paste it to the computer that is missing of the Accessories folder. in this case it would be
C:\documents and setting\john\start menu\programs and copy the accessories folder. then paste that into your account (same as above only with your account) sorry if this is confusing, this is tough to explain

If you don't have the CD do you have a "C:\I386" folder on the c: drive?

I will try solution one first. From my laptop to an external hard drive then to my PC . Hmmmm.

there should only be one since it is a Folder called i386 on the C:\ typical size is around 500 Megabytes.

If you had that folder you can extract any Windows file from there.

If you find that folder or a Windows disc then press the Windows Key = the "R" key to get to the run command and type SFC/Scannow

That will search for corrupt, changed or missing windows files.
