Straight up to my computer's problem.

i've got 2 hard disk, both western digital.
the 1st hard disk, 40 gb is where i decided to put the os
on the 2nd hard disk,200gb, i put all data inside, mostly movies.
no programmes at all, luckily  , because it's where the problem lies.

My 2nd hard disk keep getting unallocated

the disk management said that it's not initialized.
i checked the system event viewer and this is what the error said.
There are a few red cross marks there though, so i'm not pretty sure it's which one

The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume D:.

Then, this

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\D.

then this

A parity error was detected on \Device\Ide\IdePort0.

and this,

The time provider NtpClient is configured to acquire time from one or more time sources, however none of the sources are currently accessible. No attempt to contact a source will be made for 239 minutes. NtpClient has no source of accurate time.

There are a few of these errors

i tried reformatting the problematic hard disk at 1st
then it gets unallocated again

then i tried reinstalling my windows. still, it comes to no result.

Later on i discovered that my data inside the hard disk is still there.
It's just that it keeps getting unaccessable from now and then.
and when i really need the data, i cannot even open the hard disk

Pls Help Me! :flowers:

I'm using windows xp professsional sp 2 btw

I'd download the western digital diagnostic software and check out the drive. At least that will help isolating the cause.

On a side issue that 40gb is bound to be slower that the 200gb and putting your OS on it will be slowing down your pc, or at least it would if the 200gb was working.

i got a new kind of error in the system event viewer

The device 'WDC WD2000JB-00GVC0' (IDE\DiskWDC_WD2000JB-00GVC0_____________________08.02D08\5&c91f604&0&0.1.0) disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal.

Could be. I would recommend trying another cable to begin with.

Check the pins where the cable inserts into the motherboard and where it inserts into the drive.

Also, the next time that you can get into it - Backup your data! It could be that the drive is starting to fail (from the SMART test results), and you don't want to lose all your data!

Which cable actually?

the power cable or the one connecting to the mother board?

I discovered something btw.
the hard disk is accessible when i turned on the computer in the morning or after it's been off for more than about an hour.

is it because the cable is cold then only it's accessible?

i'm not very accessible to computer shops (i live on campus)
so it's not really possible for me to buy cables.:flowers:
Maybe in one month or so then i go to the city once

any other option?
