Hi there,

First of all I want to thank all you guys and gals that help us out with these problems everyday. I have a few Trojan viruses on my computer that I'm aware of and also have a rootkit that I'm aware of. My screen will get random pop ups from time to time and I get redirected to websites from time to time. I also hear random music in the background sometimes even when I don't have any of my iTunes or other websites up. Just this morning my dell laptop shutdown on its on and it took me a few hours for me to be able to properly get it to restart. I had to do a system restore to about 5 days back for it to pull up Windows 7 for me.

Any help would greatly be appreciated

We have quite a few issues there.

First of all you're not running any AV program.
Install ONE of these:
- Avast! free antivirus: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
- free Microsoft Security Essentials: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/products/security-essentials
- free Comodo Antivirus: http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/antivirus.php
Update, run full scan, report on any findings.

Then...

Download Bootkit Remover to your Desktop.

  • Unzip downloaded file to your Desktop.
  • Double-click on boot_cleaner.exe to run the program (Vista/7 users, right click on boot_cleaner.exe and click Run As Administrator).
  • It will show a Black screen with some data on it.
  • Right click on the screen and click Select All.
  • Press CTRL+C
  • Open a Notepad and press CTRL+V
  • Post the output back here.

I did a scan and it found

Trojan:Win32/Alureon.TK Removed
Trojan:Win32/Alureon.FP Removed
Trojan:Win64/Sirefef.J Removed

I can not find a place to actually get the log to this

Also here is the log for the bootkit

That looks good.

Next....
We have "hosts" file missing.

Download following "hosts"(zipped) file: http://www.bleepstatic.com/fhost/uploads/0/hosts_seven.zip
Unzip it.
Copy hosts file found inside.
Open Windows Explorer and paste hosts file to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC folder.

NOTE.
If you receive You don't have permission to save in this location message take ownership of C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc folder: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/
If the above doesn't work save the file to some known location, like your desktop, copy it from there and paste it to "etc" folder.

Re-run MiniToolbox.
Checkmark following boxes:
  • List content of Hosts
Click Go and post the result.
