Hi

Here's the official word.

http://java.com/en/download/help/error_hotspot.xml
There are some diagnostic steps to take at the bottom of that page.

A looked into the file you posted to try to find a clue that would allow me to tell you which Java program caused it but unfortunately, it happened in native code which runs outside of Java's virtual machine.

Were you running a Java based program or browser app when this text file was created like Minecraft?

I should have been more clear :)

What happened to create that file is you were running a Java program on your computer and it crashed. When it crashed Java printed a report about the crash and saved it on your desktop in a file named hs_err_5188 where 5188 was the process ID of the program that crashed.

Since you have confirmed that your Java install is functioning properly, the problem is with the Java program that you were running at the time the file was created.

Java programs run inside the Java virtual machine. They can look just like regular programs but most of the time they are web applications.

Do you use any web applications like for tracking satellites, viewing statistical information in graphical ways, weather modeling, games or do you run any programs that you know require Java to run?

These days, Minecraft is the most prevalent cause of errors like yours because of its popularity. That's why I asked. :)

The reason that I suspect it is a web app is because if a regular Java application crashed to make a report like yours, you would have noticed that the program you were in the middle of working on crashed. If a web application crashed to make a report like yours, you may not have noticed it because it might have recovered or refreshed itself in your web browser and looked normal.

When you find the program or web application that is crashing, contact the authors with the crash report text file. They will want to know about that error.

At one time I had many problems caused by WeatherBug and none of those problems after I removed that program.

What were you running last night from 9:00 PM to about 10:10 PM?

That seems to be the time the program that caused the error was running.
