I am helping a buddy with his computer. He has a OLD computer with windows 98 and wants to be able to use new software he purchased but the software requires windows xp or newer. So I installed XP on his computer while keeping all the old windows 98 files. But now when I start the computer up i have to select an OS to start and when I select the windows 98 one it just shows a flashing cursor in the upper left corner. I am guessing his hard drive is now formatted for FAT 32 instead of just FAT and it doesnt understand the old windows 98 os. All the old software/applications are there in a folder called windows 98 on the C:/ drive How do I correct this?

Please help.

just a thought Because !
before you try to fix a duel boot did you actually partition the drive and create a duel boot ,saving windows 98 files doesn't mean it was setup as a duel boot,win98 will recognize a fat32 file system .and if you did create the duel boot correctly the win98 fat file system would not have changed
