When I started the laptop today I got a window titled "Startup Repair" with a message "Your computer was unable to start". Then another window wanting to run system restore. I am running vista on an HP G60-230US notebook pc. I am afraid this may be a malware program and have not run the restore. I will shutdown the laptop until further instructions from this forum, I am making this post from a tablet.
The last program installed on the laptop was Turbo Tax, and i have run the computer and the program several times without issues.

A few months ago I had a problem with Internet Security 2012 malware. I believe I sucessfully removed it following the instructions on the malware removal page. The pc has run normally since then with the exception of an error message for windows defender everytime it boots up.

Any help will be greatly apreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried the Startup Repair and if so, what did happen, did you get any error message?

regards, Elise

I feared it was a malware program so I did not run it. If this is not a common known malware program,I will allow it to run.

Startup repair is completely legit and a windows repair option. :) When having boot problems it usually is the best thing to try.

I'm glad to hear that! :)

Do you have any other problem or question left?

regards, Elise
