Good Morning,
I have been redirected here from two different forum posts. I will include the links below so that the previous steps can be seen. I have a HP Pavilion dv2700 Produce # kc45lua. It is running Windows Vista Home Premium, AMD Turion processor (64X2 TL60), with 3 gb of ram and a 32 bit operating system. The problem that originally brought me to bleeping computer is that my laptop was recognizing my dvd/cd rom player. I can hear it getting power and trying to read a disc, but when I look at the device manager settings, there is no drive listed. My drive was working before I received help from the malware removal forum and I followed the directions to turn it back on. It is simply not there?! Below are the links to the previous forums that helped me so that someone may be able to understand the steps that have been taken.

As I say in all of my post, please be patient with me in regards to "stupid" questions. While I consider myself somewhat computer literate, I am in no means as experienced and educated as you fine folks are. :)

Thanks Again,
Mike

Update:
I just checked my device manager and now it is showing a dvd drive! So my new question is what might of happened and is this permanent? I attached a photo of the device manager to be safe.

Two possibilities come to mind.

1. You didn't reboot after trying the Microsoft fixit?
2. You have a intermittent bad connection either the drive to motherboard or in the drive.

At this point all you can do see if ti keeps working or not.

Thanks for the reply. I did reboot after the Microsoft fixit. Several times actually. I also ran the online diagnosis from HP yesterday. Microsoft and HP didn't find any issues. I will keep an eye on it and hopefully it isn't a bad connection. I was just making sure there wasn't anything I was doing (or not doing) to help the situation.

Thanks again,
Mike
