After a few traverses around the internet, both my AVIRA and Microsoft Essentials alerted me to an "unwanted program" or "virus."

The computer will give a shrill beep, and display this message;

-------------

MALWARE FOUND

Date/Time: 2/3/2012, 9:47:51 AM
Type: Detection

A virus or unwanted program
'JAVA/Stutter.X' was found in file
'C:\Documents and settings\...\8ec9882-Id96e7c0'.

Access to this file was denied.

Please select a further action:

------------

Then it gives me the option of "Help", "Remove", and "Details".

Whether I click remove or details, AVIRA goes into an automatic computer scan, and then bleeps a while later, saying the same thing. Microsoft Essentials just tells me the compture is clean, and then turns red once more, popping up with AVIRA.

I tried a search through the computer, but it leads to nothing.

I ran Rkill though, and it hinted to my epson files;

---------------
Rkill was run on 02/03/2012 at 9:43:08.
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP

Processes terminated by Rkill or while it was running:

C:\PROGRA~1\EPSONS~1\EVENTM~1\EEventManager.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Caitlin\Local Settings\Application Data\Akamai\netsession_win.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Caitlin\Local Settings\Application Data\Akamai\netsession_win.exe

Rkill completed on 02/03/2012 at 9:43:15.

---------------

The funny thing is, that I deleted the Event Manager, so I'm not sure where Rkill pulled that from.

Any thoughts?

I don't see much there....

Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

=============================================================================

Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner

  • Disable your antivirus program
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use
  • Click Start
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Check Scan archives
  • Click Start
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, click on List of found threats
  • Click on Export to text file , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
    NOTE. If Eset doesn't find any threats it'll NOT produce any log.

I tried the Temp File cleaner about 4 times, but each time lead to my laptop freezing and/or not responding at all to anything. The ESET online scanner was a lot nicer though, and had no problems.

Also, after going through Malware bytes (I had already had it prior to this) I saw that a Trojan had been quarantined, and I removed it. Besides that, it was also an old download? So I updated it, and restarted. The laptop is still showing shaky signs besides all that.

Results show that my installer is goin' through hell.

=======================================

C:\Documents and Settings\Caitlin\Local Settings\Temp\ICReinstall\cnet2_FreeSoundRecorder_exe.exe
a variant of Win32/InstallCore.D application cleaned by deleting - quarantined
C:\Documents and Settings\Caitlin\Local Settings\Temp\ICReinstall\cnet2_setup_dvr3_exe.exe
a variant of Win32/InstallCore.D application cleaned by deleting - quarantined
C:\Documents and Settings\Caitlin\My Documents\Programs\cnet2_FreeSoundRecorder_exe.exe
a variant of Win32/InstallCore.D application cleaned by deleting - quarantined

=======================================

Sorry for the slow reply, had a lot of restarting, cleaning, and an hour and a half wait for ESET to finish it's thing.

By shaky signs, I mean that the computers reaction time is slow. That, and hidden files are showing up all over. They're opacitated, but you can still delete them? Sort of like ghost files. Music files look corrupted as well, not sure what to do. (i.e. Windows Movie Maker won't import anything, stating that it's corrupted. Haven't tried running TFC in safe mode yet, will do so after this.

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at Step 6. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient.

If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.
