gateway laptop i purchased in 2008.
was working fine in the evening and i left it on in sleep mode overnight just like i always have.
i picked it up in the morning and it was off.
pressed the on button and the 'gateway' screen comes up and will go no further.

i hear kind of a buzz or low beeping sound from the HD. buzz, buzz, buzz.
the HD light is flashing.

took it to a shop and they said my power supply was NFG and that with a good power supply the HD will not "spin up".

what are my options at this point?
i have many files on the HD that i would like to save.

thank you for your help and i am searching the forum as i have time.

Can you go into the BIOS and see if it is detected?

i don't think so.

i pressed the F2 BIOS key and it beeped like i've heard before when entering BIOS but went nowhere.
