Hello,

I have a problem similar to a few others that Iíve seen posted. My browser has been infested with a hijack virus that repeatedly loads about:blank as my home page sends browser to Home Search, and launches a few extra pop-ups.

There was a new toolbar in Internet Explorer, but I was able to eliminate that by removing a program called something like IST from the Add/Remove list. I have some other programs that I canít remove from my computer using the Add/Remove function. These are called Shopping Wizard and Search Extender.

And Iíve also noticed that text files that I have open can suddenly close and disappear.

Iíve tried to correct the infection using Spybot Search and Destroy, SpyCatcher and CWShredder. None of them have helped. In a way, Spycatcher seems to have made it worse. Now instead of loading the bogus about:blank page, Explorer hangs up and becomes locked, so I have to close it with Task Manager.

I have attached my Highjackthis log. I appreciate any help that you can offer.

Thanks,

John Mc

Hi

Download this: Getservices.zip

Extract the file to the c:\ drive. Then navigate to the c:\getservices folder and double-click on the getservices.bat file. A notepad will open up. Please paste the contents of that notepad as a reply to this post.

The trojan mutates on every reboot, post please also a fresh HJT log.

From the moment you post your list, until you see a detailed fix written up, DO NOT reboot your system or log off. If you do, the service will have changed and the fix provided will not work.
Everyday is virus day. Do you know where your recovery CDs are ?
Did you create them yet ?
