Hello everyone!

The Searchqu toolbar installed without permission. Before it installed, a window popped up asking permission to install. I was supposed to check the box to give permission to install the program. I did NOT check the box!! I then clicked continue, figuring that the program would not install. But the DAMN Thing Installed anyway!! I did not ask for this program to be downloaded and did not click for this program to install!!

I tried to remove the program by going to the "Programs and Features" list and then finding the name of the program and then clicking "uninstall" and then restarting my computer. But when my computer restarted The Damn toolbar was still active on screen. So I clicked on the toolbar to look up "help" and then sent an email for the removal instructions! Here is a copy of my email I sent:

"Hello,

Your program/Toolbar installed With-out permission!! I did NOT, repeat, did NOT, check the box that would let the toolbar install. However it self installed! Now I want this product off of my computer NOW!!! I tried to delete it from the "Programs and Features" section, But the Program is still on my Computer!!

Please forward me the removal instruction. Thank you.

Matthew Groff"

My question is:

Would this action, the program downloading onto my computer and then installing without my permission, Violate any laws? If so What recourse do I have?

Are you sure you didn't confuse an opt in box for an opt out box? Maybe you checked the box by accident. But if you want to get rid of the toolbar, try Revo Uninstaller.

Hello everyone,

I am sure I did not confuse an opt-out box for an opt-in box.

I tried restoring my computer from a restore point. Hopefully that might work! I did not think of that until about 9:00pm Eastern Sunday night.

Hi everyone,

My name is John and i'm a member of the Searchqu support team, and i'm here to help! :)

@Groffeaston,this is not the expected behavior while downloading the software and choosing the custom instillation.
However,if you did not check anyone of the boxes the program will choose typical installation by default.

We apologize for any kind of misunderstanding. Please let us know for any further assistance.

The Searchqu support team.

Hello everyone,

Thanks John. I believe the program came downloaded with another program I was trying to update. Now that I think about it. So it is possible that I could have confused the opt-out box with an opt-in box. Now that I have had some time to look back on it and remembered that it came downloaded with the other program I was trying to update.

I think another thing that might have contributed to it is I am laying on my bed face-down on my stomach, with my keyboard on a tray-table and my monitor at the edge of the desk 3 feet away. Why? I have a bulging disc in my back which causes intense pain and makes it so I cannot sit, stand or walk for more than 2-3 minutes at one time. So I have to lie down to ease the pain.

Please disregard any comments from "Searchqu support" poster.

Searchqu toolbar is to say the very least very unwanted piece of software.
There are tons of topics on the internet from people who try to remove this garbage.

I'll quote just one: http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-searchqu.html

Searchqu is a browser hijacker that seems to turn into completely useless application after some time.
[...]
Searchqu hasn't been researched to rely on Trojans or distribute malware. However, it can be quite complicated to remove its toolbar completely or restore web browser's default settings.

Your best option....

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at Step 6. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient.

If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.
