I am working on a Win7 Home Premium box that seems to be working fine in all ways EXCEPT none of the browsers installed will function. On load both Firefox 9.0.1 and IE (version unknown but probably 8) immediately close ("Firefox has stopped working"). I have tried to install the current Opera, but the installer closes in the same manner. I have run Malewarebytes after RKill and various other security tools to no avail. I have been able to reinstall FF with no errors, but the new install behaves exactly the same. I have also tried an earlier version of FF. I am usually pretty good at pest removal but this one has me stumped. I have been following other similar threads, but haven't seen resolution yet.
I could really use some help with this...

I meant to include that Thunderbird works fine, and I am able to remote into the system with no problem. I can ping out from it by IP or URL. It is just the browsers that fail.

As I am sure you understand, I had to get the tools from another computer. I have also been keeping the infected one off the net, but put it on the net to run the tools. The aswMBR tool was run earlier in the day when I was waiting for a response and the box was offline. If you need me to rerun it now while connected let me know.

It looks like you're infected with the newest TDL rootkit, which creates hidden partition:

11:52:38.166 Disk 0 Partition 4 80 (A) 17 Hidd HPFS/NTFS NTFS 1 MB offset 1953521664
11:52:38.182 Disk 0 Partition 4 **SUSPICIOUS**

It'll require advanced help.

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<== starting at Step 6. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient.

If HelpBot replies to your topic, PLEASE follow Step One so it will report your topic to the team members.

No, they never came to help. The user needed his computer. I wiped and rebuilt it.
