I am thankful to find this forum. For a few months, I have had an issue where any search engine search redirects me to get-answers-fast(url flips to different sites). I've tried many programs (in safe mode and in normal mode) to get rid of the issue but even though it finds something, it is not killing the root of the issue. I have tried SuperAntiSpyware, AdAware, MalwareBytes, Spybot, AVG, and probably a few others I can't think of and nothing seems to work. I'd rather avoid a restore since I haven't gotten another external hard drive yet. I uninstalled all the programs mentioned so I can start from scratch. Occasionally I have issues where I can't use the internet but luckily the programs help that even though I still have the main problem.

I had iexplore.exe as a process for a while (read it was bad) but that seems to have disappeared even though the problem hasn't.

Please advise because I know a little bit but am no pro. I know a little too much for my computer's own good I think lol.

EDIT: I am using Windows Vista 64bit.

Which browser is getting redirected?

You're not running any AV program.
Install ONE of these:
- Avast! free antivirus: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
- free Microsoft Security Essentials: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/products/security-essentials
- free Comodo Antivirus: http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/antivirus.php
Update, run full scan, report on any findings.

Firefox is the one I use but I had Chrome and it redirected there too. To circumvent it, I just copy the link and paste it into the url bar.

You're not running any AV program.
Install ONE of these:
- Avast! free antivirus: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
- free Microsoft Security Essentials: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/products/security-essentials
- free Comodo Antivirus: http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/antivirus.php
Update, run full scan, report on any findings.

I used Avast and got 1 threat (Severity High)

C:\Users\Mark\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\40\3b46a028-10926992

The status reads: Java:Agent-ZU [Expl]

It wants me to move to chest but I'll leave it on here until I get the next step.

EDIT:

There are also other filenames on here that are .dll

They all begin with:
c:\program files\avast software\avast\defs\11112801\

Then:
algo.dll
aswcmnbs.dll
aswcmnis.dll
aswcmnos.dll
aswengin.dll
aswfidb.dll
aswrep.dll
aswscan.dll

  • Open a Notepad and press CTRL+V
  • Post the output back here.

Download TDSSKiller and save it to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.
  • If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure, click on Continue.
  • If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.
  • It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now.
  • If no reboot is require, click on Report. A log file should appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
  • If a reboot is required, the report can also be found in your root directory (usually C:\ folder) in the form of TDSSKiller_xxxx_log.txt. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
