You know what would be great? A program that would scan my computer for all drivers and compile/copy/back-up them all in a single place for me. Does such a beast exist?

Yes such software exists. In fact many different incarnations, some free as well as other more robust pay for versions. It all depends on what your needs are. See a freeware list here: Best Free Windows Driver Backup and Restore
