My dorm room has been quarantined at U of I because the network people were that aware I was infected with a virus. One of the net-tech's installed avast for me and told me to run it over night. Avast! has found that but was unable to do anything because it is a decompression bomb.I now know what folder it is in (some Auslogics Sony Maintenance thing) but am unable to remove it. Malware Bytes and SuperAntiSpyware did not pick it up and in the mean time I'm going to scan with Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool as well as the Microsoft Safety Scanner to see if they can do anything if they even find it. Operating System is Windows 7.

The net tech then told me this after I let him know what Avast! found:

"Decompression bomb sounds nasty, but it just means it's a large file. Unfortunately, that does look like the virus (it's a Trojan). Either check to see if you can go in and remove it yourself, or try http://combofix.org/

I haven't used that antivirus before, but it was recommended to me to remove decompression bombs."

however I read that I should first consult people here before trying to use combofix as it wouldn't be able to help me on its own.

You're running two AV programs, Avast and McAfee.
You must uninstall one of them.

Does your McAfee include a firewall?

So far I don't see anything malicious.

Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop:
  • Main Mirror
This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended)
  • Zipped Mirror
This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
  • Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver.
  • Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe.

    Posted Image
  • GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress)
  • If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO.
  • Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Save the file as gmer.log.
  • Click the Copy button and paste the results into your next reply.
  • Exit GMER and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.

IMPORTANT! If for some reason GMER refuses to run, try again.
If it still fails, try to UN-check "Devices" in right pane.
If still no joy, try to run it from Safe Mode.

Yeah, the school made me instal Mcafee first and then the net tech guy made me install Avast! after telling me that the Mcafee was outdated and useless. It's now being annoying to uninstall...

Anyway, here's the log

Were you able to uninstall McAfee?

Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

=============================================================================

Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner

  • Disable your antivirus program
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use
  • Click Start
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
  • Check Scan archives
  • Click Start
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
  • When the scan completes, click on List of found threats
  • Click on Export to text file , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
NOTE. If Eset doesn't find any threats it'll NOT produce any log.

No I was not, I always have the Mcafee OAS icon in the system tray and there is still a Mcafee Agent in my list of programs that I cannot uninstallMore specifically it says "McAfee Agent cannot be removed because other products are still using it." but I'm not quite sure how to turn it off. Should I try the next step you posted or do I need it removed first?
