I have Windows Vista Ultimate.
Intel i7 CPU
6 GB ram
64-bit OS

Starting a few days ago, my computer has been booting up extremely slowly. The computer enters the windows loading screen (black screen with green loading bar) and takes approximately 4~5 minutes to load. Following that, it goes into a completely black screen for another 5~6 minutes. The mouse cursor then appears and it hangs for another 3~4 minutes. The log-in screen then appears and everything else seems to be fine.

I originally suspected a virus, so I tried booting up in safe mode, but it's still incredibly slow and it seems to take a long time to load crcdisk.sys (or something similar). I also tried booting up with the bare minimum start-up services with no success. Yesterday, I also defragmented my drivers, but against to no avail. I also checked to make sure that there wasn't any loose hardware (hard drives or w/e).

Recently, I've been having an issue with opening task manager. For some reason, I can see the task manager icon on the taskbar, but I can't seem to make the window appear. The mini-window that appears when using alt+tab to switch windows also doesn't appear. Also, I have had a random, blank window that seems to be loading something. I took a screen shot to show what I'm trying to describe.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, but I tried a system restore and it didn't do anything either; it said there was an "unspecified error."

I suggest we check the hd and ram. If the problem persists, you might want to then post in the "Am I Infected" forum on this site.

To run checkdisk, right-click on a command prompt icon and open as administrator. In the command prompt window type: chkdsk /r (then press ENTER). You'll be told the disk is in use and asked if you want to run checkdisk on the next boot. Say yes, exit the command prompt window, and reboot.

To check the ram, download memtest (http://memtest.org/). Burn it to a cd using a dedicated .iso burning utility (http://www.petri.co.il/how_to_write_iso_files_to_cd.htm), make sure the cd drive is at the top of the boot order in bios, then boot to the newly created cd and run the utility.
