Hello, I used to have a topic about PING.EXE here, but I completely forgot about it. It disappeared though, but now when I full screen something "explorer.exe" shows up and takes a lot of CPU usage.
I actually tried to "Restore to Factory Made", but where it had me log into my admin account, it only had "Other User" as an option. My user account didn't work. I am now getting redirects.

Where it said to enable firewall, I got this message: "Due to an unidentified problem, windows cannot display Windows Firewall settings."
I also believe I'm running a 64-bit system, so no GMER log.

Hi Manster,

I will be handling your log to help you get cleaned up. Please give me some time to look it over and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thanks in advance for your patience. In the meantime, please do not make any changes to your computer.

If you have already resolved your computer problems, please let me know.
Regards,
Jason

Hi Manster,

:welcome: to Bleeping Computer.

My name is Jason and I'll be helping you with your computer problems. You can call me by my screename jntkwx or Jason is fine.

Some things to remember while we are working together.

  • Do not run any other tool untill instructed to do so!
  • Please do not attach logs or put logs in code boxes.
  • Tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
  • Tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can also help.
  • Do not run anything while running a fix.
  • If you don't understand a step, please ask for clarification before continuing with any future steps.

Click on the Watch Topic button and select Immediate Notification and click on proceed, this will help you to get notified faster when I have replied and make the cleaning process faster.

Posted Image One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan and password stealer.

This type of infection allows hackers to access and remotely control your computer, log keystrokes, steal critical system information, and download and execute files without your knowledge.
If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it contains any other sensitive information, then from a clean computer, change all passwords where applicable.
It would also be wise to contact those same financial institutions to appraise them of your situation.

I highly suggest you take a look at the two links provided below:
1. How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud, and CC Fraud?
2. When should I re-format? How should I reinstall?

We can still clean this machine but I can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards. Let me know what you decide to do. If you decide to go through with the cleanup, please proceed with the following steps.

P2P Warning
Going over your logs I noticed that you have µTorrent installed.
  • Avoid gaming sites, pirated software, cracking tools, keygens, and peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing programs.
  • They are a security risk which can make your computer susceptible to a smörgåsbord of malware infections, remote attacks, exposure of personal information, and identity theft. Many malicious worms and Trojans spread across P2P file sharing networks, gaming and underground sites.
  • Users visiting such pages may see innocuous-looking banner ads containing code which can trigger pop-up ads and malicious Flash ads that install viruses, Trojans and spyware. Ads are a target for hackers because they offer a stealthy way to distribute malware to a wide range of Internet users.
  • The best way to reduce the risk of infection is to avoid these types of web sites and not use any P2P applications.
It is pretty much certain that if you continue to use P2P programs, you will get infected again.
I would recommend that you uninstall µTorrent, however that choice is up to you. If you choose to remove these programs, you can do so via Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

:step1: Please download and run Combofix:

You can download Combofix from one of these links.
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
1. Close any open browsers or any other programs that are open.
2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix. If you do not know how to do this you can find out >here< or >here<
3. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

Notes:
  • Combofix may need to reboot your computer more than once to do its job. This is normal.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.

Important:
  • Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.
  • If you recieve an error "Illegal operation attempted on a registery key that has been marked for deletion." Please restart the computer

In your next reply, please include:
  • Combofix log
  • How is your computer running now? Please be as descriptive as possible. Include any word-for-word error messages that you may have, and/or screenshots of strange behavior.

Regards,
Jason

Hello Jason, thanks you for looking it over. I'd like to reformat my computer, but like I said above, it doesn't let me use my user account. It just says "other user" when I try to log on. But that was without a disk or anything, I'm not sure if I have the disk or if it even came with one. If that makes any sense.

Manster,

That does make sense. To reformat your computer, you'll need a Windows Vista disc to reformat and reinstall the Operating System. You could purchase a Windows Vista disc at Best Buy or any other electronic store like that, or you could trying purchasing a disc online (though it may be difficult to find a Windows Vista disc online, as Windows 7 is primarily sold.)

You might also have a recovery partition on your computer. What brand is your computer?

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. :)
Regards,
Jason

Manster,

If you can't find your Vista disc and don't want to purchase one, you can try following these instrcuctions to access the recovery partition:

  • Power on the computer
  • At the Dell logo, hold the Ctrl key and press the F11 key simultaneously.
  • The Dell PC Restore screen will come up.
  • Select Restore or use the Tab key to highlight it and press Enter.
  • If you wish to continue, click Confirm, or use the Tab key to highlight it and press Enter.
  • When the utility is finished, click Finish, or use the Tab key to highlight it and press Enter.

Regards,
Jason

Manster,

When initially starting up your computer, you may see other options (other key combinations) referring to Recovery. The other, unfortunate, possibility is that you don't have a recovery partition (if it is an older Dell, this is possible).

As I said previously, we could fix this infection, but I cannot guarantee that you will be 100% secure afterwards.

Jason

I ran ComboFix, but it said my McAfee Security was enabled. I disabled it like the instructions said though.

Manster,

Yes, it's okay. Combofix prefers having the antivirus program disabled because sometimes antivirus programs flag parts of Combofix as viruses, but these are false positives. Since you've disabled McAfee Security, it should by fine.
