Microsoft wireless laser mouse 5000

I upgraded my desktop to the newest version of Kaspersky. I then rebooted - everything looks good so far. Then we it gets to the login screen the mouse won't move so I cannot log in. I replace the batteries - nothing - used the down arrow and was able to log in. I still cannot do anything. I plugged in a wired mouse that I have (use it for booting up in Safe mode) and that won't move either. Right now I am on the laptop but I need the desktop!! Any thoughts??

I have XP professional

The wired mouse: USB also?

Have you tried a PS/2 connected/wired mouse?

The keyboard: USB or PS/2 connected?

Wired mouse won't work either. The wired one is the round adapter with the pins.

Keyboard is USB

the round adapter with the pins.

That's the PS/2 type. I thought it might have been.

I have no idea what Kaspersky may have done. However, if it has done it to your system, it's likely to have done it to others and therefore a good candidate for a google search/search of Kaspersky website.

I'll check. Do you think I should use the CD and reinstall the mouse? I won't be able to do anything with it though since I can't use the mouse. I thought it might work with the wired mouse but no go!

No, don't bother trying that ... it will not help.

While you are searching, I will have a look at another possibility.

I was able to boot up in Safe Mode but the mouse still won't move. I found the 800 # for Kaspersky Tech Support so I will call this morning. I need to figure out how to use the computer without a mouse - just the keyboard! I'll be looking into that today too. I have downloaded the Kaspersky Removal Tool and the 2012 version. It is sitting on my laptop right now. I will do this when I upgrade the laptop (not yet though). Guess I should have done this to begin with!! I'll keep you posted!

By the way, I have looked all over the Kapersky forums and have seen NOTHING related to this issue. Very weird!

1.30am here and can't sleep ...

Press Shift+Esc keys to bring up the Start Menu, and then use the UP/DOWN arrow keys or the LEFT/RIGHT arrow keys and <ENTER> ...

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del keys or Ctrl+Shift+Esc keys to get to Task Manager or to shut down ...

To move around the screen to various choices, try the TAB key.

Good luck with Kaspersky Tech Support: I think you might be naively optimistic .. but you never know your luck!

Actually it is CTL + ESC for the Start menu -

Now that I got to the start menu - should I try to open Kaspersky?? Or try to get online so maybe they can take over the computer when I get someone on the phone???

Actually it's 1.50am here now ...

Can you get to the Run box ... ?
If so, type devmgmt.msc and press ENTER.
Use TAB key to get on the screen.
Use DOWN arrow to move down to Mice ...
Use the RIGHT arrow key to expand Mice ...
Use the DOWN arrow to select ... let's say your PS/2 mouse.
Press ENTER.

Do you see Code 39 ?

Any chance you might be content to use a recent backup image to get over the problem? Just a thought to consider.
