I have been using XP with pack 3 and all security updates.
I find that when I double click on a folder it goes to the search dialogue window.
When I right clicked I find the top prig is "search" and "open" is down at no 3. If I click on open then the folder opens.
I have tried everything from Help and support but have not been able to save this problem. I understand that I should be able to delta the programs ahead of open or move it to the top.

Press Windows+R key and type

cmd and click ok

Run this command

regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

You will see a message DllRegisterServer in shell32.dll succeeded

Try to open your folders now

Good luck
