Everytime I hit my backspace key, my internet explorer goes to the previous page. Functions just as a backpage. I'm sure it's somewhere in my settings but I can't find it. Nerds unite. Help me please!

It's a common keyboard shortcut for web browsers. It should only do it when you're not entering text like what I'm doing right now.

Two other useful shortcuts when using IE:

alt + right arrow - goes forward a page

alt + left arrow - goes back a page

Another one is ..

Enter name without WWW. and .COM or .NET
Press the Ctrl and Enter and it will add WWW. and .COM
Press the Shift and Enter and it will add WWW. and .NET

How about alt + home to go to your home page?

Also, control+f brings up a search function for the page. This is very useful if you're trying to find something specific on a web page full of text.

Also:

CTRL+Wheelmouse up = increase font size
CTRL+Wheelmouse down = decrease font size
SHIFT+Wheelmouse up = go to next page
SHIFT+Wheelmouse down = go to last page

One more thing, from reading round various forums, it amazes me how many PC users don't realise the usefulness of the page up / page down / home / end keys when reading web pages.

(the spacebar also functions as a pagedown key in IE, shift+spacebar for pageup)

I think we are all missing the actual question posed here. I don't believe the question is about using shortcuts.
But, that the member has an unwanted problem.

Everytime I hit my backspace key, my internet explorer goes to the previous page. Functions just as a backpage. I'm sure it's somewhere in my settings but I can't find it. Nerds unite. Help me please!

cnralph does not tell us what version of IE they are working with but this was a problem in IE in
earlier versions before IE6.

We need a bit more information from cnralph on this subject.

BTW - google is your friend.
